I LOVE it. I can’t imagine how the pattern is worked up but it would take A LOT more knitting talent than I have to do something like that. (sigh) Well I hope that SOMEDAY I could tackle a project like it. “GREAT JOB:)

Hi June, I’m sorry but I don’t have the pattern – please see the thread above. I’d try a search on Ravelry, betting you’ll find some ideas or a pattern you could work with.

Looks like just i-cord with a flat tapered end for a head. Done with heavy yarn and on large needles, would be incredibly simple. Make a bunch and sew them into a hat, or onto a hat, whichever seems easier.

I would love to buy this. I teach mythology to high school freshmen, and they would love it.

According to the Flickr site this came from, this is similar to a pattern on Ravelry which can be purchased here for $2:

But it really does look like a lot of I cords put together. If you stuffed wire up the center of some of them, you could make them stand up in different poses.

This isn’t knitted, per se. The snakes are made using a knitting loom. You can knit or crochet a hat as normal then attach the snakes. You could also put a loop of wire & stuffing into the snakes to make them pose-able and more real. Do not buy Walmart knitting looms, they’re terrible.

Ann, good call with the knitting loom! never used one before but my daughr er has one! How would you make the head more flat and wide than just a continuation of the looming?

I’ve been working on this hatfor several months now. Only it’s crocheted. Now putting the hat together. My daughter in-laws sister found this and asked me to make it for her. It’s easy, just tedious. They find something they like, then come to me. Have no time for my own. 🙂
