Either/Or Mitts Designed by Lee Meredith – That’s an Elliott Smith Reference But We Can Knit Kierkegaard a Pair Too …

I love it when artifacts from my worlds collide – in this case music and crafts, specifically Elliott Smith and knitting. For those who don’t know, I love Elliott Smith – I even worked on a documentary film about his music called Heaven Adores You, directed by Nickolas Rossi. Really do love me some Elliott …
And I’m sure you know I love knitting, otherwise why would you be here and why would I have this blog? I started knitting when I was about nine years old. My grandmother taught me to knit/purl (I think with some support from my mom) and once I mastered those stitches, I ran a little business making Cabbage Patch Kid sweaters and booties for my classmates. Of course I didn’t charge enough for time/materials, knowing what to charge is always a struggle, as much now as it was then – even as a seasoned crafter.
So I was really excited today when I saw that knitwear designer Lee Meredith’s REMIX collection contained Elliott Smith creative! What’s going on here, I wondered … Smith’s album Either/Or was the inspiration for a fingerless mitts pattern, available in different versions and two wrist design variations (some you can see below). Admittedly, I am late to this party, but better late than never … I am definitely going to make a pair this month, and I have the perfect yarn … to be revealed later!
You can get the Either/Or pattern from Lee’s web site or Ravelry and you can read more about what makes these patterns so great on her blog.
