The First Annual World Amigurumi Exhibit at Resobox (2014)

Resobox is a Japanese cultural center in Long Island City, New York dedicated to sharing and celebrating Japanese influence in the arts.

Now through to February 28th, the folks at Resobox are hosting the World Amigurumi Exhibition — 4,000 amigurumi contributed by over 140 artists from 32 different countries — and it’s something else. I went out there today with my family and we had a great time hunting for yarn treasure and discovering fun cultural references. Among my favourites – the Star Wars kewpie dolls (look for a separate post on those) and the Frida Kahlo dolls.

There really is something for everyone at this show and because it’s all for sale, go before there’s nothing left to see!

p.s. Are you going to be at Vogue Knitting Live in NYC this year? Takashi Ikezawa and Helen Moss of Resobox are giving a FREE lecture on Sunday, January 18th at 11:15am–12:00 noon. I’m planning to be there – hope to see you too! I also hear there will be a pop-up shop for those of you who can’t make it to Queens.

Here are some photos I took today – enjoy!
