Awesome Home Hack – Yarn Bomb a Trash Can With This Cute Little Stitch

It’s not often you feel compelled to say, now there’s a pretty trash can!

Awesome Home Hack - Yarn Bomb a Trash Can With This Cute Little Stitch

This beautiful bin cover was crocheted by coffeebug, who pieced together a bit of a how-to, which I’m recreating here along with help from a Facebook angel named Karen Simpson. It’s all still a little bit of a mystery but with some good old-fashioned sleuthing and determination, we can figure this out.

Karen’s breakdown is as follows: To do this stitch, put your hook under the leg of the stitch on the previous row, and into the stitch of the row below that, to make a double crochet – and repeat along. Each row is worked on the front side. The base is two rows of double crochet and the first row of the pattern itself is two double crochets in the first stitch; skip 1 stitch – and repeat. Excellent stitch for working projects in the round. NOTE: this all uses UK terms, see here for breakdown – so for example, a UK double crochet is a US single crochet.

So use this first video to create the base two rows:

The second and subsequent rows – insert hook under the left-most leg of the second stitch [of each pair of stitches] on the previous row, and into the stitch of the row below that, to make a double crochet – and repeat around.

Here’s another video for that:
