Review: Unique Free Cinema Pass Metal Sign From Homebody Accents

It can’t all be about knitting around here! Sometimes I like to take a break from the hooks and needles to play house and decorate, so when I was asked if I would like to review a one-of-a-kind “Free Cinema Pass” metal sign from Homebody Accents, I said yes! Throughout my career, I’ve worked on several film projects too, so there’s a personal element here … it all works out nicely.
Soon after the arrangements were made, the sign came in the mail and it was very well-packaged, already a great start.
The 7″ x 17″ wood frame is handmade in the USA using recycled barn or fence wood, which creates a rustic look that’s perfect in its imperfections. Every joint is secured with wood glue, then pressed together with a wooden vice. The back is then glued on and secured with twelve 5/8″ brads and once the glue dries, the metal sign is fastened on with rusted screws, creating an authentic, distressed look. The easy-hang bracket goes on last and let me tell you, I appreciated that very much. This item is seriously plug and play – no fiddling with wires or brackets – everything is done, you just have to hang it.
Here it is hanging in my guest bedroom. It looks amazing against the white-washed wood of the cabin walls.
The metal sign itself measures 6″ x 16″ – the glossy, full-color image is actually pressure-baked onto 24-gauge steel – it’s thick, not like some of the flimsy tin signs you often find at flea markets. It’s made through a process called sublimation: a mirror image is printed in metallic ink onto sublimation paper, then baked into the surface of a uniquely-coated metal blank in a heat press. The surface is finished with a proprietary polymer coating that gives the sign its shine and durability.
Here it is hanging on a cabin wall just outside my living room, you can see it looks great on a natural wood surface too.
For under $20, you can’t go wrong with this handmade item. The craftmanship is excellent, the design is unique and the price is competitive. Whether you want it for yourself or are thinking about it for a gift, it’s a great deal.

For the record, I do kind of think it can be all about knitting and fiber-related activity here. ¯_(?)_/¯
