David Bowie has said that he considers Aladdin Sane (a lad insane) to be the final evolution of Ziggy Stardust … essentially “Ziggy goes to America.” The album Aladdin Sane was the first one he made as a superstar and it was clear the character had to be retired so Bowie could evolve as an artist. It’s truly an iconic image, probably the most famous of all Bowie iconography, and it’s still inspiring people to this day.

Enter knitwear designer Tanis Gray. Her latest piece, an electric cowl featuring neon lightning bolts, is a perfect homage.

Do you have a favorite Bowie song? I’s hard to choose one, but one of my favorites is “Kooks” from Hunky Dory.
