Danielle Holke is a long-time knitter, first taught by her beloved grandmother as a young girl growing up in Canada. In 2008 she launched KnitHacker, a lively blog and knitting community which has since grown to be a popular presence in contemporary knitting culture, reaching more than a million readers each year. As a marketing professional, Danielle advises and works with a motley squad of artists, yarn bombers, film makers, pattern designers, yarn companies and more. Since 2008, Knithacker has shined a bright light on independent designers and small businesses. This year alone, KnitHacker has directly helped hundreds of designers connect with knitting and crochet enthusiasts. Whether you're a designer I've featured or a maker who discovered a designer through KnitHacker, consider making a donation!
Your support will help me, Danielle Holke, keep KnitHacker a free service for our community. Every dollar makes a difference, thank you.
Hello kind Knit Hacker Folk and Danielle, I love this Folk-Art Crabs piece – a tiny 3-D knitting installation (and I love the knitter, who happens to be my husband… : >)). Kirk made this piece and gave it to old friends who hosted us in Nova Scotia. Kirk actually found the crab shells off of a Mahone Bay shore, dried them out, painted them, and then knitted them bodies. There are more nautical-themed installations Kirk has knitted (a jellyfish, a lionfish, a pufferfish, a turtle…) to be seen on his website, http://www.kirkdunn.com. As for the Stitched Glass tapestries (his BIG installation), Kirk has just finished it after 15 years of knitting. He will be touring the tapestries, alongside a one-man show called The Knitting Pilgrim, starting in May, 2019. Info on that show can be found on kirkdunn.com too, ergoartstheatre.com, or The Knitting Pilgrim’s Facebook page. Thanks for the wonderful shout-out.
