Today is National Teddy Bear Day! The concept of the “Teddy Bear” was born in 1902 after President Theodore Roosevelt took a hunting trip to Mississippi and refused to shoot a bear cub. Clifford Berryman published a popular cartoon about the incident in the Washington Post, which then inspired New York store owner Morris Michtom to create a new toy, the Teddy Bear!
