I grew up watching the Monkees in the 70s – I even remember watching their 20th reunion concert on TV in 1986 … and I still play my Monkees cassettes which are over thirty years old! In those days, my favorite Monkee was Micky Dolenz; his goofy charm was appealing to me as kiddo who was just starting develop her musical taste. As I got older, I recognized that it was Michael Nesmith who was the musical force behind The Monkees, a progenitor of country rock and so much more. Rolling Stone published a tribute that sums it all up.

If you’re feeling sad at the news of his death like me, channel that grief into something creative and inspired by Nesmith – knit his iconic wool beanie! Below are several options – it’s a quick project that you can finish in a day. Make one in dark green or blue to capture his exact look.
