Everyone else is knitting and crocheting cute animals. We’re here for the pigeons. The overlooked, the underestimated, the absolutely iridescent urban survivors who have been bobbing around our city squares forever just waiting for someone to finally make them into a colorwork yoke sweater.
That time has come – and New York City agrees. Right now, over 5,000 people have signed a petition to keep “Dinosaur,” a 21-foot aluminum pigeon sculpture by Colombian artist Iván Argote, permanently on the High Line. The city held a farewell party so popular they couldn’t fit everyone in. There was pigeon trivia. There was pigeon bingo. There was a pigeon impersonation contest.
