Work Long Hours In Front of a Computer? The BenQ ScreenBar Lamp Is For You!

Work Long Hours In Front of a Computer? The BenQ ScreenBar Lamp Is For You!

Two years ago, I reviewed the BenQ e-Reading LED Desk Lamp and I gave it five full stars (“great for your late-night knitting”) … and to this day, I use the lamp in my studio space every single day. Last year I reviewed the BenQ Genie and was equally impressed.

So I was really excited when the folks at BenQ reached out again and asked if I’d like to review the BenQ Screenbar Lamp. Yes! The key selling feature of the ScreenBar e-Reading Lamp is its asymmetrical optical design that is said to only illuminate the desk area, ensuring zero reflective glare off the screen. Let’s see if the claim holds true!

The first thing I notice when the BenQ Screenbar Lamp arrives is the quality of the packaging. They take great care to package the lamp very well, both in terms of design and good padding for safe shipping.

I was happily surprised to see that the system is comprised of just three parts – the 18-inch wide aluminum bar lamp, the USB cord to power it, and a counterweight/clip. And as usual with this brand, the quality is first-rate, you can tell by the weight of the lamp and clip, both solid – they just feel good in your hands.

You can set this lamp up in 30 seconds, which makes it very portable, a feature I appreciate as someone with two workspaces. It simply rests on the top of your monitor, balanced by a counterweight whose platform is large enough to securely hold a webcam. The light’s aesthetic reminds me of lighting you might see hovering over a painting at a fine gallery.

There’s no glare! There are four controls on the unit and they’re all feather-light to the touch – on/off, auto dimmer, hue adjustment and manual dimmer. And thanks to the built-in ambient light sensor, ScreenBar adjusts the brightness level automatically and instantly. Using the controls, it can be manually dimmed as well. The color temperature ranges between a cold blue and warmer peachy color. The bar is adjustable too, it can be rotated several degrees for maximum personalization.

Bottom line, if you’re looking for a well-priced, well-designed, flicker free light that illuminates your work space without shining a light on your screen, the BenQ ScreenBar Lamp is for you!
